About

Emma Wilkins is a Tasmanian journalist whose freelance work has been published by news outlets, print magazines, and literary journals in Australia and beyond. She has a particular interest in relationships, literature, culture, ethics and belief. From short, silly reflections on cultural norms to long philosophical essays, you never know what she’s going to write next, or where it will be published. Neither does she.

(She does know she’s never used AI to brainstorm, write, review or edit an article, and plans to keep it that way.)

Acknowledgement of Country: I (Emma Wilkins) acknowledge the Palawa people as the Traditional Custodians of Lutruwita/Tasmania. Long before “first settlers” presumed to give this place a name, it was their home. I want to acknowledge the terrible injustices inflicted on First Nations people in this place, and to uphold the importance of truth-telling and treaty. I want to pay humble respect to Elders, past and present. I hope the cumulative effect of expressions such as this will be action that stems injustice and supports the flourishing of First Nations people for generations to come.
